24 - Relaxation Techniques

Relaxation Techniques

Usually done in private – should be done every time you get ready to speak.

You need to warm up your voice mechanism. All movement techniques should be done slowly, breathing in deeply, and exhaling slowly. Allow yourself time to do these for maximum benefit.

Rag Doll

  • Stand up straight

  • Feet comfortably apart (directly under shoulders)

  • Stretch up to the ceiling slowly

  • Bend over and collapse

  • Hang there at least 10 seconds

  • Relax arms, hands, neck, and do not bounce

  • Stand up slowly.

  • Repeat 5 times.

Head Rolls – do right after “rag doll”.

  • Stand with feet apart under shoulders

  • Slowly rotate head left bringing chin to rest on your chest

  • Slowly rotate head to right, around to rest chin on chest again

  • Do not force head to uncomfortable position and be careful of crunching the neck when slowly going past the back

  • Relax with each rotation.
