45 - COMM 111: Speech #2 Worksheet

Informative

Examples of Specific/Rhetorical Purposes (Organizational Pattern - Topic):

  • Spacial - Today I want to inform you about the features of the Egyptian pyramids–starting at ground level and ending up with the top

  • Chronological/Temporal - This morning I want to inform you about the steps in processing chocolate into candy bars.

  • Topical/Categorical - What I would like to do today is inform you about the different types of service dogs.

Think about the following when working on Speech #2:

  • How does my purpose meet the informative assignment? Explain.

  • How have I shown my credibility on this topic?

  • How and when will I cite my sources out loud in the speech?

  • How do I plan to make this topic relevant to my audience?

  • How does my topic affect my audience/listeners?

  • How do I meet the WIIFM of my audience?

  • What type of evidence and supporting materials am I going to incorporate in my speech?

  • Which pattern of organization will be most effective for my main points? Why?

  • How will I begin and end my speech?

A visual aid is not a requirement for the speech grade, but your instructor may ask for one or you may want to use one to enhance your message. If you do use a visual aid, answer the following questions about its use. Describe your audio/visual aid. Is a visual required for speech #2? Is it a poster/CD/PowerPoint? How does it extend or explain the idea/point in your speech?

List the two references that you are planning to cite aloud in your speech:

(If you are hoping to use a Web site, you will need to check with your professor, unless he/she has stated otherwise.)
